When you’re not.
But we all have those moments, right? When you are, for example, ready to go out for a planned dinner but you don’t feel like talking, let alone, laughing or making contant in general. I’ve got a few tips and tricks I use to look put together when I’m really not. It’s okay to have a bad day but sometimes the timing just couldn’t be worse. So, hopefully with the right outfit and mindset people will forget about the fake smile. 😉
About the mindset, since that’s the most important thing.
Be In Charge
When I find myself in a situation where I have to be social and smile like I actually care, I try to be the one in charge when it comes to the conversations. I make sure I already know what I want to talk about before I even entered the party/event/meeting. This way you will never have people asking questions like: how have you been lately? Anything on your mind? You seem stressed… Because let’s be real, you don’t want to explain you’ve been cursing the entire drive to get here after dragging yourself into the car.
In some situations it’s actually the best thing to let the people around you know that you are not in your best mood. It’s best to talk about it when you are in company of your friends or people you’ve worked with before. Because those are the people who get you and know better. They aren’t going to judge you for being the ‘anti-social pessimist’ for a night because they know you are fun anyway. They do judge you? You might concider the value of this ‘friendship.’
You Are Fun
Remember you are fun, you are a great person with a good personality. Okay, today might not be your day but don’t let other peoples hapiness or excitement make you feel like you are not fun to hang around with or bring you down.
And what do we do when we feel like living in yogapants? Here are some quick, easy and effortless fixes.
This basicly means that your outfit is put together based on one single color. So everything you wear, that is clothing, is in the same color or close to it. The fabric doens’t have to match, neighter do your shoes and accessories.
Colourblock With Basics
Mixing up with black and white. This is an option I tend to go for a lot, it’s quick, easy and a classic combination you can’t go wrong with. Kind of reminds me of the outfits James Dean wore back in the day. With his black jeans, leather jacket and white shirt. Classic.
High End Fabric
Such as silk, velvet, satin etc. Those fabrics give an instant class to the outfit.
But most of all, don’t forget it’s okay to not always be super cheerful and happy. Personally I do have a lot of days where I’m not in the mood to laugh or be around people because I am exhausted or busy rendering a lot of things in my head. I used to think that wasn’t okay and it made me anti-social or not a fun person to hang around with. But over the years (damn, I feel old when I say that;)) I’ve learned that it’s a lot more valuable to stay true to who you are, and that acting to become a person you are not is a HUGE waste of time. I’ve been around some people for a long period of time, who I thought were the people I’ve always known, but somehow ended up being people I didn’t know at all.
You can use these tips I just shared to get yourself throught that one night where you just have to be social and impressing while it’s not really your day. But on the other hand, just keep being you and people will fall for you anyway.
